The Vet Center

Everyone will tell you the Vet Center is the BEST KEPT SECRET in the VA system! However, you have to meet eligibility requirements in order to access the services,

 

The focus of the Vet Center is to provide Readjustment counseling for Veterans who served in any combat zone and received a military campaign ribbon (Vietnam, Southwest Asia, OEF, OIF, etc.). Both the Veteran and their families are eligible for Vet Center services. Learn about the eligibility and service below and reach out to your local Vet Center to access.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Active duty experience in combat theater
  • Experienced a military sexual trauma
  • Provided emergent medical care or mortuary services
  • Vietnam Era Veterans
  • Supported combat as part of UAV crew
  • Certain Veteran family members

SERVICES PROVIDED

Readjustment counseling focuses on helping Veterans, and their families, make a successful transition from military to civilian life. Areas of assistance include:

  • Individual and group counseling for Veterans, Service Members, and their families
  • Family counseling for military related issues
  • Bereavement counseling for families who experience an active duty death
  • Military sexual trauma counseling and referral
  • Substance abuse assessment and referral
  • Employment assessment & referral
  • Veteran benefits explanation and referral
  • Screening & referral for medical issues including TBI, depression, etc.

Vet Center Call Center (1-877-WAR VETS) is an around the clock confidential call center where combat Veterans and their families can call to talk about their military experience or any other issue they are facing in their readjustment to civilian life. The staff is comprised of combat Veterans from several eras as well as family members of combat Veterans. The service is free for combat Veterans and their families so they may find resources they need at their nearest Vet Center.
