Alabama Veterans Golf Tournament

 

The War on the Greens golf tournament, organized by Alabama Veteran, a non-profit dedicated to supporting veterans, aims to honor fallen service members from Alabama. Each year, it honors a specific Fallen Soldier or Gold Star family, ensuring their loved one’s sacrifice is remembered. The event pairs veterans with other players to facilitate social interaction, which can help improve mental health by reducing feelings of isolation.

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Alabama, is a premier golf destination featuring 54 holes across three distinct courses: the Ridge, the Valley, and the Back Yard. Built on former mining land owned by U.S. Steel, the facility is sculpted from the scenic peaks and valleys of the Appalachian foothills, offering challenging elevation changes, lush forests, and picturesque creeks. The Ridge Course is known for its dramatic terrain and tree-lined fairways, while the Valley Course, renovated in 2021, provides a more traditional layout with strategic bunkers and lakes. The Back Yard, a nine-hole par-3 course, is designed for quick, enjoyable play with no water hazards, catering to golfers of all skill levels. Located just minutes from downtown Birmingham, Oxmoor Valley combines natural beauty with exceptional golfing experiences.

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove in Huntsville, Alabama, is a renowned 54-hole golf facility, serving as the northern gateway to the RTJ Trail. Nestled in a natural bowl surrounded by the Flint River, lakes, and the foothills of the Appalachians, it features three distinct courses: the Highlands, the River, and the Short Course. The Highlands Course, a Scottish-links style layout stretching up to 7,428 yards, offers rolling terrain, tree-lined fairways, and scenic vistas, with a notable landmark—an old mule barn—beside the fifth hole. In contrast, the River Course, unique as the only Robert Trent Jones design without a bunker, spans up to 7,667 yards across former soybean fields, incorporating water on 16 of its 18 holes for a challenging yet natural test of skill. The Short Course, an 18-hole par-3 layout, provides an open, links-like experience with water on 11 holes, ideal for golfers of all levels. Located just southeast of Huntsville, this trail stop blends stunning landscapes with diverse, championship-caliber golf.
